Pelvic floor physical therapy can help those experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.
At Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital, we are dedicated to helping patients experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction address their symptoms, which can include urinary incontinence, urinary urge or frequency, constipation, pelvic and groin pain, issues with sexual function, and symptoms of prolapse. Our pelvic floor rehabilitation program is led by a physical therapist specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy.
Your pelvic floor rehabilitation plan will depend on your specific symptoms and individualized goals.
What are pelvic floor muscles, and why are they important?
Your pelvic floor muscles (PFMs) are a group of muscles located in the base of your pelvis. They stretch from your pubic bone to your tailbone and side to side. They provide a support system for your organs and allow for continence. If these muscles are not working well, you may experience pain, leak urine, have difficulty voiding, struggle with constipation, or note changes in sexual function.
