Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital Now Offering Additional Medical Rehabilitation Beds and Private Patient Rooms

NEW ALBANY, Ind., March 24, 2022 – Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital is pleased to announce that it now offers additional beds and private patient rooms for medical rehabilitation.

Located in New Albany, Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital provides inpatient care for those recovering from or living with serious, debilitating medical conditions such as strokes, neurological disorders, amputations, major orthopedic problems, and traumatic injuries. The hospital’s rehab specialists help patients regain strength, restore function, improve their quality of life, and maximize their independence through therapeutic care.

To help meet the community’s growing need for this specialized type of care and patient preference for private rooms, Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital has restructured to operate as a 40-bed, all-rehab facility. Previously, the facility housed both medical rehab and skilled nursing beds.

The recent change has allowed Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital to expand its total number of rehab beds and make the updates necessary to offer private patient rooms. As a result, the hospital now features 30 single-bed rooms, each with private baths.

Private patient rooms are highly sought after, notes Kelly Brewer, Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Hospital’s chief marketing officer. “Private rooms in healthcare settings used to be considered a luxury,” shared Brewer. “But today, many patients strongly prefer their own space.”

Single patient rooms offer more privacy and can help patients feel more relaxed and at home. “Ultimately, a patient’s comfort level can impact their overall stress level and ability to heal,” Brewer added. “Studies also indicate that private rooms positively impact infection control.”

“Many of our rehab patients and their families are coping with extraordinary situations and unimaginable, often unexpected, challenges,” stated Brewer. “Dealing with a serious medical issue and requiring hospitalization is stressful—it’s easy and common to feel a lack of control in this situation. We understand this, and it’s why we’re so pleased to now offer the option of a private room. Control over one’s environment provides just a little bit of normalcy in an otherwise difficult time and unfamiliar setting. For individuals who prefer the privacy of a single room, it can go a long way in promoting rest, relaxation, and recovery.”
